Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) is a one (1)-year post graduate course for students with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture from any AICTE approved engineering college in India. Upon successful completion, an engine cadet will qualify for a 6 months onboard training as a Junior Engineer on a seagoing vessel, receiving free boarding & lodging apart from a monthly stipend during onboard training. Thereafter, he appears for the Certificate of Competency (COC) Examination (Class IV) conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. Upon receiving the COC, he is eligible to serve as a Fourth Engineer officer onboard a ship.

Academic Qualification

  • BE/Btech in Mechanical Engineering

 OR

  • A full-time Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering, (e.g. Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Electronics etc.) However, the word “Mechanical” should be first indicating that mechanical engineering is the core and the second subject is the elective.

(Must pass MEO Class IV Part A and MEO Class II Part A; may get exemption in Mathematics and Applied Mechanics)
OR

  • 5 year integrated ME/Mtech degree
  • From a College or Institute approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE/UGC) or IIT/NITs.

 

  • With a minimum marks of 55% in final year.
  • Candidate must clear his BE/ Btech in 4 years only

 

  • Numbers of ATKTs / Arrears / Repeats / Fail subjects during the entire degree Programme: Not more than six attempts

Eyesight

No Color Blindness, Use of corrective lenses permitted but the maximum permissible limits, at entry, are 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in the better eye and 6/18 in the other eye, for Distant Unaided Vision. (As given in M.S. Act, Medical Examinations, and Annexure B.)

* A strict medical fitness test is necessary for all selected candidates prior to admission. Candidates are required to undergo a medical test as prescribed by a DG Shipping approved doctor who is also approved by SIMS.
