Marine Engineer Training



B. Tech Marine Engineering degree course is a 4-year fully residential course comprising of 8 semesters and includes training on Ship-in-Campus during the seventh semester. On successful completion of the term end examinations conducted by the Indian Maritime University, a Degree Certificate is awarded. Furthermore, successful candidates are entitled for exemption from the Class-IV, Part-A Examination of the Directorate General of Shipping.

Results should be obtained at FIRST
ATTEMPT from Regular Boards only (Class XII):

  • Minimum Aggregate - 60%
  • Minimum PCM aggregate - 60%
  • Minimum  score in Physics & Maths individually - 50%
  • Minimum aggregate for Physics & Maths - 60%

(For Andhra Pradesh & Kerala State Board, separate board exams held for each class(11th & 12th) & hence, aggregate of both marks are considered)

Class 12th Improvement / Re- attempt

Candidate should have appeared for all subjects in the improvement tests from the same board of the previous attempt (Physics, Chemistry, Maths)

Language

English shall be one of the subjects with minimum marks scored 50% in class X or XII

Medical

Physically fit and meet the standards laid out by DG Shipping & ESM / SIMS*

Eyesight

No Colour Blindness, Use of corrective lenses permitted but the maximum permissible limits, at entry, are 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in the better eye and 6/18 in the other eye, for Distant Unaided Vision. (As given in
M.S. Act, Medical Examinations, Annexure B.)

Height

Boys: 157 cm minimum,          Girls: 152 cm minimum

Weight

Boys: 48 kg minimum,             Girls: 45 kg minimum

BMI

Should be between 19 and 27

IMU CET

Candidates must clear latest IMU CET.

Passport

Candidate must be in possession of a valid passport prior to joining the course
* A strict medical fitness test is necessary for all selected candidates prior to admission. Candidates are required to undergo a medical test as prescribed by a DG Shipping approved doctor who is also approved by SIMS.
