Over 200 kg of waste was collected and responsibly disposed of by a contingent of 20 SIMS cadets as a part of beach cleaning activity to commemorate 62nd National Maritime Day and 75 years of DG Shipping. The cadets accompanied by their warden were well-equipped with gloves, biodegradable trash bags, and cleaning tools, and demonstrated great enthusiasm and discipline throughout the event.
Objective of the Event was
- To contribute to the protection of the marine environment.
- To engage maritime cadets in socially responsible activities.
- To reinforce the importance of clean seas and sustainable maritime practices.
Activities Undertaken:
- Collection of plastic and non-biodegradable waste along the beach.
- Sorting of waste into recyclable and non-recyclable categories.
- Informal awareness discussions among cadets about the effects of marine pollution.
- Interactions with the chief guests and group photo sessions.
Outcomes and Impact:
- Cadets demonstrated exemplary teamwork, leadership, and concern for the environment.
- The event enhanced understanding of marine pollution laws, including MARPOL Annex V.
