As a step towards building a drug-free society, Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) proudly participated in the Sankalp De-Addiction Marathon, an inspiring initiative organised by Pune Rural Police on 4th June 2023. The event aimed at spreading awareness about drug abuse and promoting fitness as a healthy and sustainable alternative.
Over 100 cadets from GME Batch 33 and B. Tech Batch 10, along with SIMS faculty members, enthusiastically took part in this noble campaign. The SIMS contingent departed campus early in the morning, filled with excitement and a sense of purpose.
Upon reaching the venue, cadets were registered and provided with marathon chest numbers. The event began with a high-energy Zumba session creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The 5 km marathon was flagged off thereafter. Thanks to the rigorous morning training at SIMS, cadets displayed great stamina and sporting skill finishing the run with commendable ease and time.
An extra ordinary moment of sportsmanship and kindness was witnessed during the race when a girl participant fainted and SIMS cadet Utkarsh Kumar immediately rushed to her aid, performing first aid and CPR until professional help arrived.
Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty was present in the occasion and encouraged the participants.
SIMS continues to motivate and support such initiatives that promote physical well-being, social responsibility, and a drug-free lifestyle. The campus, nestled in nature, serves as a perfect backdrop for fostering such values.
