First semester of the 4 year B tech (Marine engineering) course commenced at SIMS, Lonavala. This engineering course, approved by DGS and affiliated to Indian maritime institute, is another addition to the existing Pre-sea training programmes.

Obtained Class NK approvals for – Blended Learning, Ship in Campus in accordance with STCW 95, EPSS (Electronic Performance support system), LPG Tanker Cargo & Ballast Handling Simulator Course and Simulator. SIMS plays a pioneering role in the industry by roping in the most modern technological advancements for enhancing training effectiveness.

Start of courses in SIMS Branches at Field Offices such as Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi and Cochin.

SIMS installed the most advanced Kongsberg DP Simulator, and started conducting the Basic & Advanced Dynamic Positioning Courses with the approval of The Nautical Institute, UK for the DP – 2 vessels.

SIMS Lonavala awarded ‘Outstanding’ (highest grade of A1) in the first ever Comprehensive Inspection Program (CIP) by DG Shipping – and has continued its A1 recognition since then.

Electro-Technical Officers Course, approved by DG Shipping, launched as four-month pre-sea training course.

Hands-On Training for Reefer Containers introduced – A fully operational reefer machinery installed in a 20’ container at SIMS Lonavala to train on topics such as navigation of container ships, container lashing and securing.

SIMS Mumbai awarded ‘Outstanding’ (highest grade of A1) in its maiden Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) audit, conducted by Class NK auditors on behalf of the DG Shipping, and has continued the A1 recognition since then.

SIMS Mumbai launched Operational and Advanced level LNG bunkering courses as per IGF code. The courses meet the standards and competence levels laid down in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and is also approved by DNV-GL.

The first-ever ‘Virtual Classroom Training’ with courses specific to navigation, engineering and HSE was launched by SIMS for cadets and seafarers.

SIMS alumni & ESM Chief Engineer Sameer Abdeen becomes the first amongst his peers to join the Technical team in ESM Singapore, as Deputy Technical Superintendent SIMS Alumni & ESM Senior officer Atul Kumar Singh becomes the first Captain to be promoted onboard ESM managed vessel.

SIMS recognized with two patents awarded for its innovation of the Pump Performance Analyser for a Centrifugal Pump and Cargo Tank Washing process by the Indian Intellectual Property, Govt. of India.

A first in India, SIMS Mumbai introduced “Person in Overall Advisory Control” (POAC) training course as part of its pioneering value-added post-sea courses for the maritime community.

SIMS Lonavala & Mumbai continued in sustaining its highest grade of A1 (Outstanding) in the Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) annual audit conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India (DGS) since 2014 & 2019 respectively.

SIMS is the proud recipient of the Innovation Endorsement Certificate for Products and Solutions from the Japanese classification society ClassNK. The internationally renowned organisation presented the certificate to the SIMS R&D team at a simple ceremony held at their India office in Mumbai on 11th October 2024.
